Anyways, all this tomfoolery is best summed up by the acronym HAPMA - Hexagons Are Possibly Miles Across. In the latter example, units sleep in shifts. For example, a unit can be a single soldier with each 'village' being just a house, or each unit can be a platoon/squad with each 'village' being a small town (in this case, the unit's name is the name of the platoon/squad commander). That means that, for specific instances, you will see different scales using the same hexagons. Each hex represents one 'thing' (object) a village, a unit, etc. Basically, hexes are purposefully abstract representations of space. Also, the game has day and night cycles, but how come none of troops ever need to sleep? So, depending on which aspect of gameplay we look at, a single hex is either a meter or a mile in size. Since an average person can easily walk six miles in four hours, even if they aren't fit, we could also say a hex is a mile in size this makes sense for some things (unit movement, the villages) but not for other things (the size of castles, roads and bridges). This means, for example, the mage can only move six meters in four hours. But this results in villages so tiny they can only fit one person, castles so small they can't fit more than a dozen people and a single turn taking four hours long (six turns per day). Since a hex doesn't allow stacking, this means a hex is about one meter in size (since that's about how much space a single person would take up in a war). One hex is one thing, so there's no consistent sense of how big a single hex is.

Battle for Wesnoth is one of the best open-source turn based wargames out there, and I appreciate the number of developers who worked hard for essentially no pay making this excellent video game.

Schizophrenic Difficulty: Unlike virtually every other campaign, it is completely impossible to plan ahead in this campaign, because you have no way of knowing what units you play with on the next map, since the chaotic plot of the game arbitrarily gives and takes units that you have to assume you only get to play with for a single chapter before they might be removed from your unit list again, only to show up in your recall list a couple dozen chapters later.Prequel: Set before and directly tied to Heir to the Throne, setting up many things in it (how Delfador meets Kalenz and Chantal, who is the general Lionel and how does he end up in a cave, how Asheivere starts her plot to become the queen), but created after Heir to the Throne.Or you can keep him alive and he would tell Delfador to do the same thing anyway. In the first scenario, you can let Delfador's mentor Methor dies and he would tell Delfador to go to Leollyn in Weldyn which sets up the rest of the story. Mentor Occupational Hazard: Downplayed.
